Prior to going into private practice, Chris worked for over 10 years in the public and private mental health sectors, where he gained extensive experience in treating the impact of psychological trauma. His passion for work in this area led to his involvement in setting up a number of private outpatient programs for the treatment of post-traumatic stress. These programs targeted treatment for both childhood and adult psychological trauma, as well as treatment for psychological trauma experienced by emergency services workers.
In his work with clients, Chris takes a holistic, collaborative, and person-centred approach. His interpersonal style balances warm and gentle with authentic and direct. He predominantly practices evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-based therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). For processing psychological trauma, he incorporates strategies from Schema Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation Movement Reprocessing (EMDR). Chris is accredited to provide EMDR therapy by the Australian Association for Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDRAA).
Chris is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the APS College of Clinical Psychologists. He is also registered by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as approved to provide clinical supervision to psychologists and psychologists in training.
