About Dr. Coleiro
Chris is a clinical psychologist in Melbourne, who has worked with a variety of client groups within the public and private health systems in Australia. He has extensive experience in treating mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, bipolar, adjustment disorder, OCD, and panic disorder. In addition, he treats complex and longer-term problems such as difficulty with managing emotions and emotional sensitivity, identity issues, impulsivity, and relationship instability. Chris is also experienced in treating complex post-traumatic stress symptoms, dissociation, eating disorders, drug and alcohol dependence, and GLBTI issues.
In his work with clients he takes a holistic, collaborative, and person-centred approach. He predominantly practices evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-based therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). He also incorporates strategies from other therapies including Schema Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). Chris is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Movement Reprocessing (EMDR) for treating PTSD and other post-traumatic reactions.
In addition to seeing client’s privately, Chris is the coordinator of the Trauma and DBT Program at The Melbourne Clinic. In this role, he provides supervision to psychologists and other allied health clinicians, as well as delivers outpatient treatment through individual therapy and group sessions.
Chris is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society and the Australian Psychological Society’s College of Clinical Psychologists.
