Experience and Expertise

Dr Chris Coleiro is a clinical psychologist in East Melbourne who has extensive experience in treating mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, bipolar, adjustment disorder, OCD, and panic disorder. In addition, he treats complex and longer-term problems such as difficulty with managing emotions and emotional sensitivity, complex post-traumatic stress, identity issues, impulsivity, and relationship instability. Chris is also experienced in treating symptoms of dissociation, eating disorders, drug and alcohol dependence, and GLBTI issues.

In addition to seeing client’s privately, Chris is the coordinator of the Trauma and Personality Treatment Program at The Melbourne Clinic. In this role, he provides supervision to psychologists and other allied health clinicians, as well as delivers outpatient treatment through individual therapy and group sessions.

In his work with clients he takes a holistic, collaborative, and person-centred approach. He predominantly practices evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Mindfulness-based therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Chris is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Movement Reprocessing (EMDR) for treating PTSD and other post-traumatic reactions.
